Why are You not Calling?

There is a big difference between those who are making a kill in the Home-based business arena and those who are barely making ends meet. And it is not so much as regards the number of leads that they generate. It’s about the connection (or calling) they make with their prospects.

You see, while the average home based entrepreneur is busy obsessed with getting tons of traffic and leads, the top producer is busy obsessed with turning the leads into customers and partners.

For a long time the only thing I was preoccupied with was getting traffic and leads to my blog and capture pages. I would go around the web surfing for the latest lead generation tactics and how to implement them in my business.

And then after getting these leads I would not connect with them and form relationships with them. I would be hoping that they would either call me for my information or outrightly sign the dotted lines.

Hogwash!

No doubt, you could make sales and get some affiliate commissions by not connecting with your leads or prospects, but if you want to build an empire in this business you have to pick up the phone and CALL your prospects.

Honestly, I think that one of the major reasons people run online is due to weakness. They are scared of talking to people. They are scared of picking up the phone. They dread hearing that voice on the other end.

They want to hide behind the computer and refuse to make that human connection.

Hey, it doesn’t work that way.

You gotta pick up that heavy, heavy phone and make that call.

Why You Need To Do Phone Prospecting

I know there are several people who would love it so much to close people via emails and send back and forth messages to their prospects and expect replies and then and then till they sign up.

Don’t get me wrong, it ain’t bad. It’s just not an effective strategy.

Tim Sales once told of an interesting scenario that played out between one of his students and a prospect. This guy had gotten this lead and instead of calling him decided to make use of text messages to pass information to the prospect.

Here was how the discussion went down between them (via text messaging)…

Prospect: “Hey – what was that website you wanted me to show my wife again?”

Distributor: “www.MyXYZCompany.com”

Prospect: “Okay, thanks. I’m excited!”

Distributor: “Great! Let me know what your wife thinks when she sees it.”

Prospect: “Will do.”

…approximately 1 hour later…

Distributor: “So, did you watch the presentation?”

Prospect: “Yeah”

Distributor: “Any questions?”

Prospect: “My wife says it looks like ***** or one of those pyramid things…she’s not happy…”

At this point the distributor picked up the phone and tried calling the prospect (something he should have done much earlier in their conversation – specifically, when his prospect sent the first text asking him what the web address was).

But it was to no avail. The prospect was gone. His wife disapproved. It looked like one of those “pyramid things” and they were gone. Prospect lost.

If you’ve ever had this happen, let me give you some advice right here – don’t text message back and forth with your prospects, even if they initiate it.

Email/facebook messaging, Texting are NOT for:

  • Communicating the main portion of your message with a prospect
  • Telling a prospect where to view your presentation online
  • Asking them their feedback on what they just watched

If you rely on texting or emailing for those activities, you’re just asking for objections to pop up and then it becomes VERY difficult to facilitate handling them.

Networking is a people business – and it’s important to understand that texting and the internet are great tools, but they cannot replace the “live” person-to-person interaction that needs to happen to effectively communicate your message about the product or opportunity.

A Sample Phone Prospecting Script

Now that you know that it’s not just about generating leads, you need to have posture to be able to have the right mindset to approach your prospect.

Regardless of how good the script I will be giving you, if you do not have posture it will not work. Though I don’t use it word for word and I occasionally drift from it, it helps in keeping me on track. Some of you might not like scripts, it’s okay. This part is for those who need what to expect and what to say before they become natural at it.

(This situation assumes that you generated this lead using attraction marketing, so they’re familiar with whom you are when you call.)

You: Hi Sue, You were on my website recently. How are you?

Sue: I’m good. Wow, I can’t believe you called me.

You: Of course, Sue I’ve got about five minutes before I’ve gotta hop on another call. What can I do for you?

Sue: Now Sue may say something generic like I was looking for help with my business or I was looking for ways to get more leads, etc.)

You: (Now here you can ask Sue more questions depending on the response, like What type of business are you in?, How long have you been in it? What else do you do?) etc.

People need to warm up to you. Don’t just rush in.

You: What specifically were you looking for that you don’t have in your business right now?

Sue: She could say more money, leadership, more prospects, etc. Most will say more money.

You: How much money are you looking to make?

Sue: About an extra $1500 a month.

You: Sue, if you had an extra $1500 a month, what exactly would you be able to do that you can’t do right now?

IMPORTANT NOTE: This question is very important. I’m getting to her CORE NEED. Everyone will say I need more money. Who doesn’t? But it’s never the money, it’s what the money will do for them, that’s their core need.

Sue: Well, I’m a single mom and I work 2 jobs, so if I could make $1500 extra a month, I could quit my 2nd job and have more time to spend with my kids….

IMPORTANT NOTE: You’ll know you’ve identified their core need when their is a gasp, a sigh, etc. You’ll hear a physical change in the voice. It will become more relaxed. If you’re face to face, there will be a facial change, a change in posture.

You: And how would that make you feel?

Sue: Wow, I would feel incredible. It would be like a weight lifted from my shoulders.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please get this. Sue isn’t looking for money. Her core need is to spend more time with her children and get from under the weight and stress of working two jobs.

When you find the core need and you believe in your business, you are now an expert. You know that you now have the solution that Sue is looking for.

You: Sue, If I could show you how to make an extra $1500 a month, so that you can spend more time at home with your kids, be there to help with home work, be able to go to their games or other activities, and get that weight off your shoulders, is there anything else you need to know before you get started other than what it is?

Because I’ve identified Sue’s core need and am now communicating that back to her, what is she going to say?

Do you see how that has a greater impact rather than telling people the history of your company, how great your juices and berries are, who the founders are, how long they’ve been in business, etc.

NO ONE CARES!!! What does that have to do with me is what they’re saying in their head.

Sue: No, if you can show me that, there’s nothing else I need to know.

You: Sue, are you in front of your computer right now?

If Yes: Give her the link to the presentation. While they’re pulling it up, ask more questions about them? Are you married? How long have you live in ______? Kids? Ages?, etc. (Don’t allow any dead silence on the phone)

After the site loads, ask Sue to hit Pause.

You: Ok Sue, now watch it, take notes and pay attention because about 20 minutes in, you’re gonna see how you can make that extra $1500 a month, so you can quit that 2nd job and be at home with your kids more. OK?

Sue: OK

You: Now, this will take about 35 minutes, so I’ll give you a call back at 8:00.

Now follow up with Sue and close her, do a 3 way call with your sponsor or whatever procedure your company has in place.

I can guarantee you that if you make use of the information I provide in this post, your home-based business will take a new turn and you will notice a dramatic change in your business. But like I know so well, not many people will implement them. :(
