MLM Business Budgeting: How Important is Business Budgeting?
Budgeting is an INCREDIBLE important aspect of GROWING a real business. I have seen people come into the Home-based business industry and do not think about business budgeting. What I think is partly responsible for this is that a lot of people come from paid employment where they do not need to have a budget as far as their employment is concerned.
However, like all successful entrepreneurs know, for any business to thrive there must be a budget. Traditional business owners know that sometimes they will need to stick to a budget for a long time before they start seeing results of any kind. They know that to starve a starting enterprise of the needed cashflow is tantamount to digging an early grave for the business.
Because they realize the importance of constantly feeding a business that is just starting, many entrepreneurs have been able to make a success of the Home-based businesses.
Do You Need a Business Budget?
One of the yardsticks to judge your seriousness in your home-based business is to ask yourself if you consciously have a budget for your business.
I cringe when I see ads that tell prospects that they don’t need to buy anything. That all that is requires of them is join and that sales happen on autopilot for them. Will you allow me to be truthful? It is a lie!
There is absolutely no getting around spending money in your business. If you’re one of those “business challenged” people who says… “You mean this is gonna cost me!?”… you need to pay CLOSE attention.
Any real business is going to require A LOT of your money. It’s going to require A LOT of your time, energy, and sweat equity. I don’t care what way you look at it… if you’re in this FOR REAL… then act like a real entrepreneur.
You need to develop a BUDGET… for how you’re going to grow your business… an actual BUSINESS PLAN. I know it’s a pretty strange concept for MLM Business owners. But in the rest of the world… people do actually develop a “business plan” when they want to grow a profitable business.
When it comes to your Budget, you need to determine EVERY ounce of income you have to devote to your business RIGHT now. And my recommendation is, if you want this to be a REAL business, that REALLY turns into a lifelong income stream for you… then devote AS MUCH as you possibly can.
Mandatory Tools to be Included in your Business Budget
- Asides the starting capital required to getting involved in a Primary Business Opportunity, you are most likely going to need $18 a month for an Autoresponder… that is just LOCKED in stone. You will need an Autoresponder to build your list and establish your reputation as a leader. Like they say in Internet Marketing, the money is in the list and your relationship with it. And I advise my team members to get an Autoresponder that does not increase in price as the number of subscribers increase, because money saved is money earned, especially when such an Autoresponder performs the same functions and even more than those that charge more as the list increases.
- Probably $10 – $50 a month for a system for your capture pages, or if you hire designers to build your own… it would be more.
Anything outside of that… is optional when you’re ready. Example: tweet adder, traffic geyser, etc. tools like that which help you either drive traffic, make money, or both.
But to start off, most of your budget will be pretty low for your software, and truth be told, if you’re in a system like Marketing Survival Skills – you get your replicated websites customized for you, capture pages, pre-written Autoresponder messages and the rest… WITH an education on top of it. So it’s pretty much killing two birds with one stone for a very affordable price.
Eventually you will need to increase your budget as you earn because you will want to consolidate your leadership position, but with this you should have as solid a foundation. You may even want to go establish yourself and cut yourself from your Marketing System, but for a start you will need to start with one.
CALL TO ACTION: Maybe you don’t know there is an Auto responder that does not increase as the number of subscriber increases and offer more in terms of service and potential than the other Autoresponders I know out there. CLICK HERE to view a graphical comparison of what I’m talking about. Also why pay more than $10 for an Online System that will help you generate at least 25 leads per day for ANY business. As usual I’d love to read your comments and to see you share this post on facebook, twitter, digg, BlogInteract, Blokube etc. Thanks!

Hi ‘Tosin,
Unless we follow a business budget we have no idea if our money is being effectively used.
An autoresponder and website are musts. Pencil these in and be sure to record them on your ledger. Keep track of every penny spent. Not only does this cause you to address if your investments are wise, some of these investments might also be tax write-offs.
Thanks for sharing ‘Tosin!

Hey Ryan,
The part of realizing that some of these investments are tax write-off is really huge and must be put in mind in organising one’s budget.
If you are online, you must have an autoresponder and website(s). There is no going around it.
Thanks for the contribution, Ryan!

Hi Tosin,
I have had many people react the same way when the subject about spending money on their business came up. Great post on this matter.

Hey Steven,
The fact that this is Network Marketing does not remove the fact that you are a business man. If you want to build a successful business, be prepared to invest in it. Period.
When done properly in the right fashion, it is worth it in the long run.
Thanks foe the comment, Steven!

Great post! Auto responders and websites are a must and indeed it should be included in the business budget. These are part of the investments that will definitely bring back earnings.

Thanks for visiting my site, Jasmine. Hope to see more of you.

Hey Tosin,
I use to have the mindset of trying to start a business for free, but now I know better. With that mindset you’ll attract other people with the same mindset and your business will not go anywhere.
This is why coming up in with a business plan and a budget to run it is so crucial. Like you said, this is what REAL ENTREPRENEURS do to run their business. Thanks for sharing the TRUTH to running a business.

Hey Sherman,
No REAL ENTREPRENEUR starts a business for free. Why people come to this industry which is essential a business for the entrepreneur without expecting to have a budget for business is beyond me.
The truth is that two things will happen eventually; either you quit because you cant track your expenses or learn. I prefer the latter.
Thanks for adding value to the discussion, Sherman!

Hi Tosin,
I think many online entrepreneurs don’t really regard their business seriously so they think they will budget when they start earning money. Ironically unless you keep to a budget you’ll probably never see any money you earn as you’ll just keep paying it out.
One of the best financial lessons I ever learned was that wealth is not about how much you earn but how much you can keep and a budget is the key tool to make this happen.
Awesome topic!

I can say what you said about not seeing money you earn without a budget is true for me.
Like I said REAL entrepreneur use budget and since Network MArketing is known as an industry for the entrepreneur, then I see no reason we should not have a budget
Thanks for the valuable comment, as usual, Marcus!

Hi Tosin,
A business budget is something very important that is necessarely in order to see the earnings, profit and so on. I consider the business budget a ‘must have’ for something done the pro way and the good way. Great topic chosen, congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Tosin,
Another great post! How people get into this industry and think they can do it for free with no monetary investment from them is beyond me, but it is way too common!
I also teach new business partners and those I mentor about their cash flow. Many who enter our industry in this day and age are low on cash and don’t think they can afford anything but once we coach on cash flow they begin to understand how they can do it as well as when they are truly in profit.
Another business expense in the budget that is required for MLM’ers is their monthly auto-ship commitment. This expense is integral to their success as well as the companies. You can’t build if you don’t love and use your products and you need product to share! I also remind them that any required commitment is a 100% tax write off as a cost of doing business!
Love reading your posts Tosin, keep them coming!

Hello Tracey,
I strongly agree that many people come into our industry without any prior entrepreneurship knowledge and it then becomes our job as leaders to lead the way and teach people who want to be taught how to do things in our industry.
Also, I was tempted to include the autoshipment but quickly realize not every company has the monthly auto shipment.
Thanks for coming here and your compliments are much appreciated.

Hi Tosin,
I totally agree with you. You know, my Mom used to say…”From nothing comes nothing.” Which when applied to entrepreneurship and growing a business would translate to..”If you don’t spend any money you won’t make any money.” It’s just logic, pure and simple.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Hey Ilka,

I just wonder how people could come to an industry like this and manage to convince themselves that they can just stroll into this industry of entrepreneurs and not want to do what entrepreneurs do.
Thanks for a wonderful comment, Ilka!:)

Hey Tosin!
This is a great post because it is SO necessary. You’d be surprised how many people have not budget at all; they just say they can’t spend too much money on their business.
My budget includes all the necessary components of an online business, including an email marketing service and hosting account, but I have to say the biggest part of my budget is on learning — courses, products and books that help me advance my knowledge.
I truly believe that learning new skills equates to making more money online. Why? Because the more you learn, the more valuable you are to others who want to know what you know.
The best thing about a budget is that it forces you to stop spending when it’s time. If I didn’t have a budget I would probably just keep spending money on new courses and live events and my bottom line wouldn’t look very good!
Thanks for the reminder, Tosin!

Hey Bob,
I agree with the ongoing education you talked about!
Ongoing education is ESSENTIAL to success in life. Even more than just the tactics, & knowledge… ongoing education is a COMMITMENT to yourself. It’s DEDICATING yourself to the entire process. That is quite possibly the most important part of business.
Thanks for making this post more valuable with your comment.

I believe that everybody can start a business with or without money involved. The catch here is how long will the benefit come in if: 1st) you don’t spend a single penny or 2nd) if you invest a reasonable amount of money. Considering you have all the plans and strategies to be used. Money can work for you on fast pace basis. Very unlikely when you simply rely on free items because this can eat up much of your time for sure.

The money part is variable as in it depends on how much work you’re willing to put into it. There’s always an initial cost, but you can keep it low if you manage sleep 4 hours/night and work the rest of the day
